ExxonMobil in California
Employees & Retirees i
ExxonMobil and La Jolla-based Synthetic Genomics have been jointly researching and developing oil from algae for use as a renewable, lower-emission alternative to traditional transport fuels since 2009. ExxonMobil has a purchase agreement with Global Clean Energy Holdings for 2.5 million barrels of renewable diesel per year for five years from a converted California refinery starting in 2022, and is also a founding member of the Global Climate and Energy Project at Stanford University, which seeks to develop fundamental, game-changing scientific breakthroughs that could lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions and a less carbon-intensive global energy system. ExxonMobil operates the Santa Ynez Production Unit (offshore Santa Barbara), composed of three platforms in federal waters and an onshore oil and gas processing facility.
