Carbon capture and storage is a safe, proven technology that can enable some of the highest-emitting sectors to reduce their emissions.

With effective government policies in place, broad deployment of commercial-scale carbon capture and storage projects could create a new industry, resulting in job creation and economic growth.

ExxonMobil has cumulatively captured more anthropogenic CO2 than any other company – 120 million metric tons – accounting for approximately 40 percent of all the anthropogenic CO2 that has ever been captured as of December 2022.

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the International Energy Agency agree that CCS is one of the most important low-carbon technologies required to achieve societal climate goals at the lowest cost.

We’re teaming up with other industry leaders to capture and safely store up to 2M metric tons of CO2 annually in Louisiana, beginning in early 2025. That’s like replacing about 700,000 gasoline-powered cars in Louisiana with electric vehicles!
