“From science perspective, don’t dismiss desalination”

Texas

Access to abundant, clean water is a foundation of modern life. It stands among the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century and is a central reason why life expectancy in the United States increased significantly over that period. I remind my students often that this progress was not inevitable, and it is not something we should take for granted. South Texas’ historic drought is a cautionary tale for the fragility of our existing water supplies and exposes the limits of systems built for a different time. If left unaddressed, it exemplifies the potential tradeoffs between economic potential and quality of life for generations of South Texans.”
