At a time when society is actively working to reduce emissions, it’s critical that we consider all solutions, including a low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) to help reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions in one of the hardest-to-decarbonize sectors… transportation.
Why a low carbon fuel standard?
A LCFS can help reduce transportation-related lifecycle CO2 emissions faster and at a lower cost to society than policies focused solely on fleet transition. That is because LCFS policies enable lifecycle CO2 emissions reduction from vehicles currently on the road today as well as new.
How could it benefit consumers?
A low carbon fuel standard could reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions for vehicles already on the road. It also empowers consumers to choose from a wider range of vehicles that fit their needs and budgets, including gasoline or diesel, flex-fuel, hybrids, EVs, or other technologies.
How does it contribute to economic growth?
Various industries will be able to play a part in delivering transportation sector emission reductions – including biofuels, traditional fuels and project-based emissions reduction technologies such as carbon capture and storage – protecting and enabling continued job and economic growth.
