U.S.A.
  • What is it?

  • Why is it important?

  • The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is proposing to quadruple oil well setbacks—without any input from Colorado voters—a decision that would negatively impact oil and gas production, the state's economy and working families.
  • This regulation would increase the setback to 2,000 ft.—FOUR TIMES the distance of existing regulations—and would cause significant roadblocks for future projects.
  • The Commission will meet on September 21—take action TODAY and tell Governor Polis to protect oil and gas development in Colorado.
  • Colorado’s economy is recovering from the pandemic—now is not the time to jeopardize future projects that will provide vital economic benefits to the state.
  • In recent years, Colorado's oil and gas industry has provided an annual economic benefit of more than $30 BILLION1, supported hundreds of thousands of local jobs2 and generated an annual average of $600 million in tax revenue per year for K-12 and higher education3. The proposed regulation would have devastating effects on local jobs and critical funding.
  • For years, our state's oil and gas industry has worked to understand and support public health, safety and the environment by constantly innovating and improving industry processes.
  • Colorado voters already rejected Prop 112, which included a similar setback regulation. Any proposal that would have such a massive impact on the state should include input from Coloradans. It should not be decided by unelected officials.
